Would Your Client Mind If You Used AI to Write Their Email?

Here’s what advisors get wrong about client perception.

This question comes up in nearly every advisor training session I run:

“Would my client care if I used AI to write an email to them?”

Advisors worry that clients will think AI is impersonating them, or that it feels lazy or impersonal. But in my 20+ years in wealth management and fintech, I can tell you:

Clients don’t care how the email was drafted. They care that:

✔ It’s accurate

✔ It’s timely

✔ It reflects their goals

✔ And you reviewed it before sending

AI isn’t replacing the advisor; it’s replacing the typing.

Clients hire you for judgment, not keystrokes.

If AI helps you respond faster, more clearly, and with less friction… most clients see that as added value.

Why This Question Actually Matters

AI is no longer an optional tool, it’s becoming part of every advisor’s workflow. But transparency, professionalism, and compliance still matter.

Here’s the truth most advisors miss:

1️⃣ Clients care about clarity, not who typed the message.

As long as your expertise shapes the content, clients are comfortable.

2️⃣ Advisors using AI respond faster — clients love that.

Speed = value.

3️⃣ Reviewing AI content protects relationships (and compliance).

AI drafts. You edit.Everyone wins.

4️⃣ Transparency builds trust.

A simple line like:

“I used a writing assistant to help organize your questions so I could respond more thoroughly.”goes a long way.

5️⃣ AI frees advisors to spend time on real conversations, not clerical work.

Clients hire you for thinking, not formatting.

Bottom Line:

Your client doesn’t mind if AI drafts the email. They do mind if you send something:

❌ rushed

❌ inaccurate

❌ confusing

❌ or not reviewed

AI is a tool. You are the advisor. And that combination is the future of great client service.
